Place: Keene Public Library, Herberton Hall
Price: Free
Ages: All

The Keene Public Library hosts a monthly free family dance for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Family Dances started at the Keene Public Library in the summer of 2003.  Now the dances are held the first Friday of each month from November through May.  Over the years, the series has become an important library program that helps to develop early literacy skills and is fun too.  Folk dancing helps to encourage the basic concepts of rhythm, repetition, sequencing, patterning, predictability, anticipation, musical cues, auditory discrimination, and counting.  These are all important early learning skills.  Traditional dance also is a great way to introduce children to the world’s rich diversity, to teach the enjoyment of dance, music, and rhythm and to begin a livelong habit of the social enjoyment and physical activity of dancing.

Could be you’ve seen those Fushigi commercials and feel drawn to contact juggling. Come to a SpinJam - an open environment for the sharing of movement and object manipulation skills. Professor Lowery, a 12-year veteran of fire performance and an active participant in the Boston SpinJam community, has volunteered his time to help the Franklin Pierce community start playing! Starter tools provided - we’ll have hula hoops, contact juggling spheres, juggling balls, poi, and a few staffs to help you get started. The earlier you start practicing, the sooner you’ll become awesome. All Spinjams are on the basketball courts in the Bubble. Bring appropriate footwear.

All are open to the public, although the SpinJams will require the $5 bubble fee for non-student/staff.
