"The Old Homestead" is a play written by a former Swanzey resident Denman Thompson. It is drawn from memories of his youth in Swanzey, NH, in the mid-1800s. The Northeast’s premier renewable energy and arts festival — a three-day, family-friendly festival that combines world-class entertainment with not-to-be-missed workshops in renewable energy, sustainability and community engagement.
SolarFest blends art, education, and outreach to inspire conservation, promote renewable energy, and support sustainable communities.
We raise more than a few eyebrows when we explain how our entire weekend festival, including the sound and lights on our main stage, runs on renewable energy, primarily solar with a bit of wind in the mix.
We combine superb family entertainment with presentations by some of the region’s most knowledgeable Renewable Energy experts. We thicken the mix with how-to and hands-on workshops on green building, sustainable agriculture and thriving locally. We even offer a track of workshops designed especially for young people, entitled The Solar Generation. We offer a special children’s activity area (Kids Korner), and a wide variety of food, craft, renewable energy and sustainable living vendors.
Our featured performers represent a far-ranging spectrum of styles and traditions from around the world. We provide plenty of space throughout the weekend for serendipitous encounters, conversation, dancing, hiking, camping, relaxation, and an overall celebration of our planet’s beauty.
Gates open on Friday at Noon, Saturday and Sunday at 8am. Gates close at 8pm on Friday and Saturday. The show ends at 10pm on Friday, 11pm on Saturday and 7pm on Sunday.

Air National Guard 'Rise to the Challenge' Tour

The Air National Guard "Rise to the Challenge" Tour will be at the Hillsborough Balloon Festival. The free skills-driven experience provides the general public an opportunity to participate in simulated missions designed to demonstrate the real-life roles of Air Guard men and women. The tour features five interactive challenges; each highlighting skills associated with an Air Guard career field. Through these gaming challenges, visitors can learn more about the role of the Air National Guard, as well as identify opportunities that will help them achieve their educational and career goals. New to this year's tour is the Grateful States initiative. Grateful States encourages participants to conclude their tour experience by entering a video booth to record a personal message of thanks for those men and women of the Air National Guard currently serving our country at home and abroad. People can also contribute video messages to the initiative online by visiting GoANG.com/Gratefulstates.
