Marlborough Trail Hike

Time: 10:00 am-4:00 pm
Place: Marlborough Trail, Shaker Rd., Marlborough, NH (about 4 miles from Keene)
Price: Free
Ages: Older

With Harris Center. This hike will be a good workout—the scenic 5 mile route to the open summit is strenuous, rising some 1,800 feet, but we stop along the way to look at early spring wildflowers in bloom, including the rosy Rhodora. Our leaders, Ben Haubrich (Harris Center Trustee and the Monadnock State Park’s former, long-time manager), and Paul Gagnon from the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, will meet hikers to depart at 10 a.m. from the Marlborough Trailhead on Shaker Road, off Route 124 in Marlborough. Note that the last ½ mile of Shaker Road is not maintained, and requires high clearance −possibly a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Come prepared for hiking to higher elevations − hopefully above the “black fly zone”. Wear layers and bring lunch and water. Back about 4:00 p.m. Contact Paul Gagnon at pgagnon@forestsociety.org, 224-9945 x 338, or−by cell phone−(508)885-4522. Cosponsored with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
