Myth-Steries: Stories in the Stars

Time: 7:00 pm
Place: Rockingham Free Public Library, Bellows Falls, VT
Price: Free
Ages: All

Since the earliest times, humans have looked at the skies, watching their slow, steady changes, as well as the wanderings of the planets and the Moon.  But the sky is too far away to touch, or explore.  So people made up stories, or myths.  Sometimes they tried to explain why the stars and the Moon were there.  Sometimes they used the stories to create a system of keeping track of time.  Modern science has answered many - though not all - of the questions, and our calendars and clocks keep track of time.

However, the stories linger, and we still look up and wonder, "Why?" Mark Breen, Senior Meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, VPR’s “Eye on the Sky” weather forecaster, and author of the award-winning children’s book, “The Kid’s Book of Weather Forecasting” will lead you on an exploration of the night sky, its myths, stories, and changes.

All of the one-on-one trainings are free and open to the public. No prior computer experience is necessary and each site has computers available for people to use. All sessions are one-hour long and tailored to the individual's needs.

“We meet with people who want to learn how to take advantage of all the Internet has to offer,” says VTel Community Broadband Organizer Dan Lucier. “Many folks have not had the chance to develop computer skills and others want to enhance the skills they currently have. We aim to give them this opportunity.”
