Author Priscella Gilman, Presented by Keene is Reading

Time: 4:00 PM
Place: Keene State College, Mabel Brown Room, Student Center
Price: Free

Ages: Older Crowd

The Keene is Reading program, in collaboration with the Symposium committee, is pleased to announce the first of several events around the theme of "What Sustains Us?" with an afternoon talk and discussion with Dr. Priscilla Gilman, author of The Anti-Romantic Child: A Story of Unexpected Joy.

In this extraordinary memoir Gilman writes of her experience as a professor of English at Vassar and at Yale and how the life she expected became something very different with the birth of her first son. His special needs led her to new expertise on autism and early childhood education, and her book looks to how we are all sustained by literature, knowledge, love, sacrifice, and the attempt to live out our deepest values.

A wonderful speaker who will be a keynote at the annual meeting of the Asperger's society soon before speaking at Keene Dr. Gilman's event is for everyone: educators at all levels, parents and caregivers, and students reflecting on the meaning of success and the value of education. Her book is on reserve in Mason Library and for sale in the bookstore. A time for questions and a book-signing will follow the event. Free and open to the public. For more information or for accomodations for a disability please contact William Stroup at 8-2692 or wstroup@keene.edu
