Lady Bug Tea Party

Time: 9:30 am-11:30 am

Come with your favorite stuffed animal to join the tea party fun! Children (under age 6) and an accompanying adult are invited to stop by at any time. We will have a read aloud, enjoy some snacks and juice, and visit with the lady bugs and all our other tea party friends. Please park outside of bank parking lot. We Were There, Too!

Award-winning author Phillip Hoose will speak to middle school aged young people at this afterschool program. His books focus on the courage of young people and how their actions changed their communities. We Were There, Too!: Young People in U.S. History by Phillip Hoose is the first to tell the story of the role children and adolescents have played in the making of our nation.The book  is a compilation of over seventy stories, including that of Claudette Colvin, noting young people who made differences in the outcome of U.S. history.
The project will continue with teacher-led workshops at the Keene Public Library on Tuesday April 24, May 1, and May 8 at 4:00 p.m. Participants will discuss Phillip Hoose’s message. Each young person will design and create a mixed media collage based on the theme of courage. Artwork will be displayed on city Express buses during the spring and summer.

The Old Country Fiddler: Charles Ross Taggart, Traveling Entertainer

Adam Boyce portrays Mr. Taggart near the end of his career, c. 1936, sharing recollections on his life and career, with some live fiddling and humorous sketches interspersed in this Chautauqua living history program.

Junior Book Club

Slithering Salamanders

Time: 10:00 am-11:30 am
Place: The Nature Museum, 186 Towshend Rd., Grafton, VT (about 32 miles from Keene)
Price: $5 members/$10 non-members
Ages: Preschoolers 2-5

Preschoolers will get to look at live salamanders up close, play games, and hear The Salamander Room during story time. With the help of some craft supplies, preschoolers will then transform themselves into salamanders and learn to move like them.

This program is open to children ages 2 to 5. Two- and three-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5 for Museum members and $10 for non-members. Children should wear play clothes with long pants and comfortable shoes, as becoming slithering salamanders is dirty work!

Keene Restaurant Week

Saint-Gaudens Presentation

Dr. Henry Duffy, Curator of the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, N.H. will speak at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 24, at the Peterborough Town Library.  "Our National Treasure: The Life, Works, Studio and Home of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Master Sculptor, in Cornish, N.H." is free and open to the public.  All are welcome.
