This summer series of youth workshops provides a low-commitment opportunity for young artists to push the limits of their artistic interests. Each workshop will touch upon a different medium, tying in reading and hands-on activities. Kids will love trying something new and getting to learn about various tools and materials, and how they have been used by famous artists. Students will have hands-on creative work-time as well as time to discuss their projects as a group, see examples, and share ideas freely. Each medium will provide a different creative challenge and plenty of opportunity for young artists to express their own vision. Kids will experience the process of each medium, and will learn about the exciting results they can achieve through structured projects and activities. Each medium encourages students to develop skills in artistic foundations such as color and composition, to strengthen their hand-eye coordination, and to develop a sense of art appreciation and self-confidence. The Ugly Duckling Play
Ages: All
This beloved story by Hans Christian Anderson is about a misfit
'duckling,' who after being picked on by his siblings for his size and
awkwardness goes out into the wide world in search of acceptance. Using
puppetry and creative visual sets, Vermont's PuppeTree offers a
re-telling of this classic fairytale. This adaptation, created through a
partnership with the Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences, integrates
science, the ecology of birds and their relationship to the audience,
and performing arts. Unique handmade puppets and humor combine for a
show that appeals to children of ages four and up, and their grown-ups,
too.
Get motivated, gain confidence, and learn techniques for using puppets to help in your classroom or center. Puppets are powerful teaching and learning tools. They nurture creative thinking, stretch the imagination, strengthen a love of language, and motivate even the most reluctant reader.

Terrific Tuesdays: Raptor Encounter
This afternoon we welcome a number of special visitors from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS). Live falcons, hawks and owls provide the lens through which we examine food webs, predator-prey relationships and the interdependence of the systems that support life. This first-hand encounter enables participants to understand the defining characteristics that make a bird a raptor and their adaptations for life as a predator on the wing. Touchable artifacts and hands-on materials round out this special experience.
Terrific Tuesdays takes place each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. during our
summer reading program. Each week there is a different special event
designed for kids that are approximately aged five and up. Well-behaved
younger children are welcome to attend with an adult.
