Popular Day

Thursday, July 26th Events

Theatre: Mauritius

Time: 7:30 pm
Place: Actors Theatre Playhouse, Corner Brook & Main Streets, West Chesterfield, NH
Price: Tickets on Thursdays are $12 (Students $6); Fridays $15 (Students $8) and Saturdays all tickets are $15
Ages: All

Stamp collecting doesn't seem like much of a subject for a play, but Theresa Rebeck's MAURITIUS brings out the best and worst in its characters, two half-sisters fighting over their recently deceased mother's stamp collection, and three men with shady backgrounds and motives who want to get it. The title Mauritius refers to an island off the coast of Africa from which a now highly collectible stamp, described as the 'crown jewel of philately', was issued in the age of Victoria. Directed by Sam Pilo and performed by Emily Seymour, Mark Ziter, Nick Bombicino, Bob Gruen and Abby Wicker. “MAURITIUS” plays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings July 26 through August 8. Tickets on Thursdays are $12 (Students $6); Fridays $15 (Students $8) and Saturdays all tickets are $15. Reservations are strongly recommended. Curtain time is 7:30 for all performances. Call the Toll-Free Box Office at 877-666-1855 for phone reservations and seasonal information of performances, dates, ticket prices, directions to the Playhouse, to join the mailing and email lists and for contact information. Keene Painting Group

Time: 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Place: Keene Public Library, Heberton Hall, Keene, NH
Price: Free
Ages: All

Repeats weekly. For many decades, artists living in New England have come together in small social groups to paint and enjoy the art world. The level of ability is wide ranging and includes virtually all media, oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels and more. The painting groups generally paint together in church basements, Town Halls, and lodge halls throughout the rural communities. The groups vary in size and an average group size might be about twenty artists with seven to twelve artists painting together on a given day. Some group members are just starting out but others have been painting for decades. Some are self-taught and some have a formal art education.
There is no formal instruction at group meetings. Artists simply learn from one another by observing and asking questions when they see something that interests them.
