Orkestra Marhaba will perform a selection of Sufi devotional songs as well as Ottomon classical music, secular songs and dance pieces in a free concert sponsored by Marlboro’s music and humanities departments.
The music will be a creative collaboration of modern and traditional instruments, including the ney, a seven-holed flute closely associated with sacred and traditional music in the Middle East and Asia. Orkestra Marhaba is made up of Frederik Stubbs and Shanteri Baliga on ney and bendir (frame drum), Tev Stevig on a long-necked lute called a tenbur, John Lobosco on clarinet, Diana Taylor on oboe and Vanessa Beresford on violin. The concert complements a Marlboro course on Islam, and is open to all.

Meet the experts and taste a variety of Heirloom Apples! “Heirlooms” are our classic, local heritage apples. Their looks can be deceivingly crude, but their rich flavors and textures often remain superior to their modern offspring. And they connect us to a very diverse apple past! A production orchard with a distinct focus on heirlooms is as rare a find as these special apples themselves. Alyson’s takes great pride in our success resurrecting these forgotten varieties. Take a bite, and enjoy history! PYO Apples, Wagon Rides & Farm Stand shopping, too! (10-5 pm)
